Mathematics

Vision

At Rowlands Castle St John’s, we believe that mathematics teaches us to make sense of the world around us through developing a child’s ability to calculate, to reason and to solve problems. Our intention is for children to understand and appreciate relationships and pattern in both numbers and space in their everyday lives. We believe that children can implement this through their growing knowledge and understanding; children learn to appreciate the contribution made by many people to the development of mathematics. The impact of this will be children that will feel confident and secure when talking, using and applying mathematics both in their learning at school and in day-to-day activities at home.

Through our Christian Values of Courage, Creativity and Respect, we will create a nurturing environment which fosters curiosity and an achievement culture for all. We will pursue high expectations in both pupils’ learning and their personal development within our supportive and friendly environment with a strong community ethos. Through an adaptive and child-centred curriculum, we will meet the needs of each individual to prepare them for their future.
